Role of Community and Voluntary Groups Recognised

Local community organisations and voluntary sector groups are playing a key role in supporting families and individuals through the pandemic.

I met with staff from Collydean Community centre to find out more about what they’ve been doing over the pandemic. The centre has been distributing food to those in crisis throughout this year and has recently employed community champions to work at the local level to provide direct support for those who require it. With restrictions on meetings support for people to access technology and be able to talk on line has become more important as the centre rolled out their digital connections support.

The work of these frontline groups is just fantastic supporting those most vulnerable but also providing vital services within the wider community. The food distribution has been a god send for many and as we approach the Christmas period the support for families is essential. These workers have been on the frontline throughout and I wanted to thank them and ensure their role is recognised
