Praise for Fife Day Care Services

The ongoing work of Fife Day Care was celebrated this week as they hosted their AGM for the first time in their purpose built facilities within the Fife Council Care Village in Lumphinnans.

Chairman Joe Paterson welcomed members and key stakeholders to the meeting and outlined the work that had made the last year very successful in developing a range of services for older people from across the Cowdenbeath area including Kelty, Benarty, Lochgelly and Hill of Beath. He said that the dedication and commitment of staff and volunteers was the key factor to the continued growth in the organisation and gave thanks to all involved. Mr Paterson said those attending the various sessions highlighted the social interaction, stimulation and friendship as the key benefits and said the centre also provides a good meal for attendees.

I was a guest speaker and also thanked everyone involved in the delivery of the services which support over 100 people every week. I thanked Chairman Joe Paterson specifically for a ‘lifetime of commitment’ to the local communities of central Fife.

The challenges that public servicse are under are as a result of ongoing austerity and the facilities at Lumphinnans set the benchmark for the kind of facilities and services we must develop into the future to support people in their older age. As the population changes and there are more older and retired people it will be important to provide more of the kind of services that Fife Day Care are so good at doing and is why we need to set out a vision of older peoples services for the future.
