I was delighted to welcome eleven volunteers from Lo’gelly Lunches tothe Scottish Parliament this week for a tour and to discuss their ongoing concerns about the lack of food security for individuals.
The volunteers have been running Lo’gelly Lunches since 2019, which organises a weekly space every Tuesday between 11:00 and 13:00 for local people to gather, socialise and to have lunch together and runs a food pantry every Friday where people in need can pick up essentials.
The group also deliver food parcels to those who are housebound or struggle to get out and work with the Big Hoose Project to deliver household goods across the Cowdenbeath area.
It was great to welcome the volunteers from Lo’gelly Lunches to the Scottish Parliament and to personally thank them for all the work they do throughout the year preparing food and providing a warm space at Lochgelly Town Hall.
It is brilliant that the team are running a space where everybody is always welcome and that helps to tackle the growing issues around social isolation and loneliness while also providing lunch in a warm, friendly space.
We all know that social isolation is not good for people’s physical or mental health so it is so it is clear that Lo’gelly Lunches are doing vital work to improve their community and they should be commended for that.
