I was delighted to take part in the Scottish Parliament Great Get Together in order to honour the memory of Jo Cox MP. This June should have been Jo Cox’s 44th birthday – but a person filled with hate and prejudice took her life. We must always remember, as Jo Cox herself said in her opening speech to Parliament “we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us”.
This year there was a focus on bringing together MSPs, their staff, Parliament staff, journalists, visitors, schoolchildren and others – over lunchtime to mark Jo’s remarkable life and legacy.
I was also pleased to sign the pledge wall in Parliament which said: “We can’t leave the fight against all forms of prejudice and hate to individual communities. It is a fight for all of us.”
We remember Jo Cox by coming together, and never allowing hate to split our communities apart.
