This week I spoke in the debate in Parliament on Scotland’s Choice over a second independence referendum.
I wanted to emphasise the point that we can have a discussion in Scotland about the future direction of our country and people can disagree without being nasty or vicious to others. We must categorically treat each other with dignity and with respect.
Whilst I know many thought the 2014 referendum was a great exercise in democracy, many others found the whole experience very negative and intimidating.
So moving forward the important thing is we must respect every person’s right to have an opinion and whilst we might not all agree it is crucial we conduct the discussion and debate in a frame of mutual respect.
I am a proud Scot and I respect the right of every Scottish person to have an opinion, to argue that opinion, and to campaign for what they think is best.
