Youth Work changes lives

Youth Work changes lives: that was the message members of the Cowdenbeath Area Youth Form gave to local MSP Alex Rowley when he met them this week at the Corrie Centre in Cardenden.

The group are planning a launch of a new initiative ‘Cowdenbeath Youth Bank’ funded by the area committee and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust to provide grant assistances to youth groups and individuals to do work supporting young people.

Alex Rowley said; “These young people are very focused on what needs to be done to support young people in the area and on how they are going to take initiatives like the youth bank forward. They are also very keen to let people know the value of youth work and how it supports and encourages young people to gain confidence, skills and also have fun.

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Jayne Baxter also joined with the group discussing their work across the area. She said; “What was really encouraging at the Corrie Centre was the amount of young people that were participating in many different activities in the building and it is good that young clubs are busier than ever showing the real value of this kind of activity and public service”.
