A new Care Village in Lumphinnans will be constructed and open for residents by late summer of 2017. That was the message local MSP Alex Rowley got when he visited the site this week to discuss the development of the £10.3 million project with site managers.
A new 60 bed care home along with 30 homes for pensioners will form the care village along with day care facilities and lounges for residents and the wider community with support services on hand and will replace the current Valley House Home in Cowdenbeath and Jennie Gray Home in Lochgelly.
Mr Rowley said; “I am very pleased to see the work about to start on this new care home village which is leading the way in Scotland in terms of support and services for older people. As an opposition councillor in Fife I fought against the attempts by the then SNP/Liberal partnership to privatise these services and once in administration I brought forward detailed financial proposals for building new homes across Fife and keeping the services within the public sector. It is great to now see these proposals progressing to the building stage.
“The majority of people are living much longer and none of us know what support and care we will need in our old age and that is why we must continue to renew and build the very best services for those who need them and have given all their lives to our communities. I am also pleased that the Council team building this exciting development have established a stakeholder group and have put in place work plans to ensure they work with the community and minimise disruption whilst the building works is on going”.
