Benarty Young Citizen of the Year Kayla Bell was presented with a Pen from the Scottish Parliament this week from Alex Rowley MSP to recognise her achievement of raising money to support children receiving treatment for cancer.
Kayla also arranged for her fellow members of St Kenneth’s School Pupil Council to then meet with the local MSP and put questions to him about local and national issues.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Rowley said; “I attended and spoke at the awards ceremony where Kayla was recognised and made Benarty Young Citizen of the Year and I was so impressed when she was receiving her award that she said she wanted to say a few words and then gave the best speech of the evening! I said at the time that she was a credit to her school and to young people in Benarty. Now having spent time with her and her fellow Pupil Council members in discussion and question it is clear all these young people are amazingly informed and confident with a clear commitment to assist fellow pupils and indeed the wider community. The school is buzzing with enthusiasm and a determination to succeed and is a credit to the whole community”.
