As council staff put the finishing touches to the new Kelty Community Centre local MSP Alex Rowley paid a visit to see the new sport and leisure centre for himself. The former Council leader who had brought forward the proposal to build the £7.3 million Centre as part of the Labour Administrations budget in 2013 said; “These new facilities will serve the village now and for the generations to come”.
He added; “I was very proud to walk round this new facility and I must thank everyone who has worked so hard to move this project from a proposal, then a decision to go ahead, to now the finished product which is just brilliant. The new centre will be open 7 days a week and offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports as well as a dance studio, children’s crèche, youth rooms and community meeting rooms. There is a also a few kitchens including a fully equipped training kitchen and sitting alongside the new library there is a modern state of the art learning and ICT facility that can support people into the world of learning, training and work.
Also this week for the first time the new full sized 3g pitch was light up as the new floodlights were given their first switch on. Mr Rowley said that staff would be moving into the new facility from next week and bookings for the facilities would be able to be made after that. He concluded; “This new centre is the next step in brining more integration to public services and is absolutely the way to go. I hope we can see more of these kinds of facilities being built across the constituency as it is great for community health and wellbeing and sport but it also makes economic sense offering better integrated public services”.
